After a very active August the US Mint has decided to suspend sales of the $50 Gold Eagles and all Platinum Eagles. This suspension is just for the buisness strikes only.
The US Mint is having a difficult time keeping up with the demand for the $50 Gold Eagles and all Platinum Eagles which has forced the mint to suspend all sales of these coins. The suspension of the $50 Gold eagle looks like it will be lifted the first week of September. As for the Platinum Eagles no word on when or if the US Mint will lift the suspension. We all know that this is not the first time for the Platinum Eagles to be suspended this year. Numismatists around the country are still unsure if the mint will strike Platinum Eagles in 2009 this recent suspension has added more cause for concern. The 2008 $100 Platium Eagle in MS 70 is already a very hard find for collectors and investors couple that with the reccent suspension prices should trend a lot higher for these coins in the near future.
