Metals are down considerably from recent market highs that we have seen in the last couple of months. So the big question is how does this affect numismatic coins? As many of you know numismatic coins are driven mainly by supply vs. demand. However there are some occasions where certain coins seem to over react to metal prices. What this means in a nutshell is that you can find incredible buys when this happens. Right now market indicators are looking to point to Native American coins, specifically the $2.5 Indians and the $3 Indian head princess. These coins have proven track records in the collectable market. In the past these coins always reached or surpassed their previous market highs in every bull market. Right now, due to a recent over reaction to gold prices a collector can purchase these coins about 60% to %70 below previous market highs. These coins will only get more expensive after metals recover making this the best time to go after those key date coins. |
