In 1899, a new and revolutionary $5 Silver Certificate entered circulation. Instead of the usual Presidents and statesmen, it features the magnificent portrait of Running Antelope, a famous chief of the Uncpapa band of Sioux. This is the first and only bank note in history with a Native American as the central image. But it was issued for just a short time and has become increasingly scarce since 1899. The few remaining bank notes are highly collected both for their historic importance and their extreme beauty.
