Morgan Silver Dollar

First minted in 1878, and halted due to silver shortage in 1904, more than 270 million Morgan Silver Dollars were melted in 1918, creating a highly sought after collectors coin today.
Few coins in U.S. history have been greeted with more indifference at the time of their release this silver dollar. Struck in .900 Fine Silver from the famous Comstock Lode, the Morgan Silver Dollars were often called "Cartwheels" because they were the largest U.S. coins ever minted for circulation. When Jesse James and his gang robbed a bank, a big chunk of their loot was Morgan Silver Dollars. They were struck by the U.S. Mint between 1878 and 1921 and were the favorite form of money in the old Wild West. The round classics were largely ignored by the public until the 1960s. Since then, it has gradually become among the most widely pursued and desired of all U. S. coins. And few, if any, have then gone on to stimulate such passionate excitement among collectors.
